Sixteenth Century Exeter

In the later sixteenth century, most people live in the countryside. Cities like Exeter are the exception. It is the fifth largest city in England and a regional capital. Despite this, it keeps to its medieval street pattern and is mostly contained within its Roman city walls, though with growing suburbs where poorer families live.
